john: Shortly after 2 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2020, multiple Salt Lake City police officers responded to a call alleging that a man had tried to rob someone at gunpoint outside a strip club in the area of 300 West and 900 South. They found 22-year-old Bernardo Palacios-Carbajal outside an adjacent motel. They chased him with their guns drawn around the motel and nightclub to a parking lot across the street. After he refused 17 verbal commands to drop his gun, officers Neil Iversen and Kevin Fortuna shot him in the back. After he fell to the ground, they continued shooting and ordering him to show his hands. After he picked an item up off the ground, later identified as a gun, they fired again, totaling 34 shots, 13 - 15 of which struck Placios-Carbajal, killing him. No officers were injured. So 17 chances to drop his gun and then after being shot he still reached for it.
