Victony joins Kyle Meredith to explore the ins and outs of his 2023 releases, including the new version of “Soweto,” a standout track that originally appeared on his 2022 breakthrough EP Outlaw.

The Nigerian-born rapper discusses his freestyle process, discovering himself musically, and the genres that he still wants to tackle. Victony goes on to talk about the story behind “Jolene,” how he crafts his songs with a live performance in mind, and what it is to be called “The Outlaw King.”

“Where I’m from, Nigeria, it’s pretty rare for people to be themselves on this side of the world. Because when you want to truly stand for something, people are going to criticize you,” he explains. “It’s not easy to be what you want to be on this side of the world because people always have something to say. If we are going to be ourselves, that’s a crime then. We’re outlaws.”
