Vicky Kaushal’s Sam Bahadur to release on OTT ZEE5

Sam Bahadur is poised for a much-anticipated theatrical release, scheduled for December 1, 2023. The film, set against the backdrop of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, pays homage to Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. He is a prominent figure in Indian history who led the war that ended with the creation of Bangladesh.

Following its theatrical run, the movie will make its digital debut on the OTT giant ZEE5. While the theatrical release date is confirmed, the OTT release date remains shrouded in secrecy.

This biopic aims to shed light on Sam Bahadur’s illustrious career and life, spanning over four decades and five wars. His role in the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war, which led to the creation of Bangladesh, will be the central focus of this film. In a recent interview, Vicky Kaushal addressed the relevance of Sam Bahadur for today’s generation.

He stated, “The reason behind making the film is not because he is the first Field Marshal, but because of the person he was. He truly is a role model. And if anything you can draw inspiration from, I think it’s his life. He understood the social strata of the country and he has been there for the common people.”

In a separate interview, director Meghna Gulzar shed some light on her latest venture. She discussed how she seized an opportunity to create a film on Sam Bahadur.

She mentioned, “He should have been celebrated much earlier. But there is a very selfish part of me that says it’s good he wasn’t for it gave me an opportunity to make a film on him.”
