Veterans & active military get free deals at Sheetz, McDonald's this Veterans Day

A few restaurant chains in western Pennsylvania are offering Veterans Day deals to show gratitude for veterans and active-duty military personnel.

TheSheetz convenience chain will offer veterans and active-duty military personnel a free meal and car wash this Saturday on Veterans Day. Recipients can enjoy a free half turkey sub and a regular size fountain drink at any of Sheetz’s 700 store locations. The offer includes extras and add-ons to the sub.

Sheetz also will provide a free car wash to veterans and active-duty military. This offer only applies to the $9 car wash option and is only available at Sheetz stores that have a car wash. Military ID or proof of service must be presented to qualify. To locate your nearest Sheetz location, visit sheetz.com.

“This is the least we can do to give back to those who have given so much to our country,” Sheetz Car Wash Category Manager Scott Soisson, himself a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and then retired from Air National Guard, said in a press release. “We know that this offer has been very popular in past years and that our store teams are looking forward to serving veterans of all ages on Nov. 11.”

The Altoona-based company also will make a $50,000 donation to the United States Organization (USO).

Sheetz employees will be volunteering at a Thanksgiving dinner event at the USO later this month. Sheetz customers are encouraged to donate their loyalty points in November to the USO. Two hundred loyalty points will equate to a $1 donation via the Sheetz app.

Meanwhile, McDonald's owner/operators across the tri-state area will honor military veterans with special offers on Veterans Day.

Veterans and active-duty military are invited to visit and enjoy either a free breakfast, lunch or dinner meal at any participating location.

The free breakfast is a Sausage McMuffin with Egg Meal, which comes with a small soft drink, tea or hot coffee, and a hash brown. The free lunch or dinner option includes a 10-piece Chicken McNugget Meal, which comes with a small size soft drink, tea or hot coffee, and a small order of fries.

“Serving the community and showing support for all people have always been the tentpoles of what McDonald’s restaurants stand for,” Joe Nyanko, president of the local consortium of McDonald’s owner/operators, said. “Veterans and active-duty military personnel have put their lives on the line to make all of our communities better, and we are honored to take this day to recognize our local heroes by putting food in their bellies, free of charge.”

Proper identification is required. Guests should bring a military ID card, DD-214 form, Veterans Organization card or a photograph of themselves in uniform.
