New Versions Of Beloved Movie 'Clue' Could Soon Be In The Works For TV And Film
Will we finally find out who did it?

Was it Colonel Mustard in the library with a lead pipe? Miss Scarlet with a candlestick in the kitchen? Whoever did it, per Variety, Hasbro Entertainment has just closed a deal with TriStar Pictures and Sony Pictures Television to turn the beloved whodunnit game into a film—again.
“Sony is the perfect partner to adapt a property as culturally impactful and mystery-defining as ‘Clue,'”Hasbro Heads of Film and TV Zev Foreman and Gabriel Marano told the outlet. They added that this partnership is the perfect team "to help us figure out after 75 years if it was Colonel Mustard in the conservatory with the candlestick.”
The popular board game, which was inducted into the Toy Hall of Fame in 2017, was turned into an equally beloved comedy, back in 1985. That film featured a star-studded cast that included Tim Curry as Wadsworth, the butler, Madeline Khan as Mrs. White, Martin Mull as Colonel Mustard, and Christoper Lloyd as Professor Plum. The film followed a group of strangers who were each sent a mysterious invitation to a secluded manor on a dark and stormy night. Things go from bad to worse after the host is killed leaving the guests to try to solve a murder before themselves becoming victims. The film included a variety of potential solutions, leaving it up to the audience to decide whodunnit. It has gone on to become a cult classic.
Turns out Hollywood has been trying to reboot Clue for years. According to Variety, the 1985 film was just the beginning. Universal reportedly tried to develop a film that would have put Ryan Reynolds on the suspect list, as well as a Clue miniseries that was being developed for Discovery Family back in 2011. Fox also reportedly wanted in on the Clue fun, developing an animated series based on the game, which sadly doesn’t seem to have come to fruition.
While it’s hard to imagine topping the 1985 classic comedy Clue or turning a board game into another movie, it was also hard to imagine turning the classic Barbie doll into a blockbuster and that film earned over $1.46 billion at the box office.
