Verizon Hires Ex-AwesomenessTV Exec Steve Woolf as Go90 Head of Programming

Steve Woolf, formerly global head of networks at AwesomenessTV, has joined Verizon’s Go90 mobile-centric video group as head of programming.

At Verizon, Woolf will oversee all programming for Go90 and related networks on the platform. Most recently, he worked at AwesomenessTV — majority owned by Comcast, with stakes held by Verizon and Hearst — overseeing business development, technical operations, and partner acquisition for the company’s multichannel networks.

Before joining AwesomenessTV in 2015, Woolf was executive producer and editor-in-chief at DreamWorks Animation’s “YouTube Nation” where he oversaw video curation, development, writing, production, post-production, programming, partnerships, social media, channel management, talent booking, and rights and clearances.

Woolf also formerly worked at Blip, now part of Disney’s Maker Studios, where he led the creation of Blip Studios original production unit. He has been a Streamy Awards blue-ribbon panel member since 2012 and is co-creator of web series “Epic FU.”

Woolf’s hiring comes after Verizon tapped Ivana Kirkbride as Go90’s chief content officer. Kirkbride, a former exec on YouTube’s originals team, had most recently worked at video startup Vessel, which Verizon acquired last month.

Go90 is overseen by Verizon Entertainment GM Chip Canter, who joined the telco earlier this year. Canter previously worked at NBCUniversal as senior VP of product and business development for digital distribution.
