Venice: Iranian Drama ‘Wednesday, May 9’ Scores Sales Following Lido Bow

VENICE – “Wednesday, May 9,” a timely Iranian drama about a philanthropist intent on helping Tehran’s poor with unexpected consequences, has scored multi-territory sales after it’s well-received world-premiere in Venice’s Horizons section.

“Wednesday” is a first work by Vahid Jalilvand a Tehran University theatre school graduate who is also an actor and TV and docus director. Jalilvand also stars in the film. The protag is played by prominent Iranian multihyphenate Niki Karimi (pictured).

Paris-based Noori Pictures has sold “Wednesday” to Academy Two for Italy; Contact Film for Benelux; and Filmarti for Benelux. Other deals are said to be in the works.
