Velvet Bombers to kick off FA5
The Velvet Bombers will kick off Friday After 5's 28th season tonight on the RiverPark Center stage.
The Velvet Bombers, which cover rock, soul and dance hits, are set to perform at 6:30 p.m. on the RiverPark's outdoor patio overlooking the Ohio River.
Along with the Velvet Bombers, the rock band insulated will be set up on the Pier stage and country band Lowland Ramblers will be on the Overlook stage.
FA5 has partnered with Heath and Molly Eric, owners of the concert management company The Eric Group, in securing this year's musical entertainment for the free 12-week series. The event has a street fair component, which has added more food trucks and vendors along Veterans Boulevard.
The season will also see the return of the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum's contemporary Christian music series, "First Fridays," that will take place on the first Friday from June through August on the Michael E. Horn Family Foundation Outdoor Stage located behind the Hall of Fame facility.
Each night will feature the Owensboro Bluegrass Band — led by Randy Lanham, education director with the Hall of Fame — as the opening group before introducing a prominent contemporary Christian music act.
"First Fridays" will also be working in conjunction, from a marketing standpoint, with Christian Family Radio based out of Bowling Green.
For the following weeks — May 24, Free Fallin' — A Tribute to Tom Petty and Evansville-based post-pop rock and Americana outfit Cynthia Murray & The End Times will keep the season going, followed by the Boscoe France Band with Paul Reed Smith and the Andy Brasher Band concluding the month on May 31.
The month of June will begin with Nashville-based classic rock group Vinyl Radio and alternative country band Ole 60 setting the tone on June 7, followed by Louisville rock and dance band Caribou, funk, blues and soul group Zocephus & FunkNasty and the full band lineup of Flat Stanley playing on June 14, and Nashville-based R&B/soul group The ConSoulers, Louisville rock-and-roll group Super Bee and local southern rock band Last Call putting on their respective sets on June 21 and Bonepony, a stomp rock and American/roots band, Outlaw Apostles, a classic and southern rock band, and The Sorrells will round out the month on June 28.
On July 5, FA5 will feature the 101st Airborne rock band, Juice Box Heroes, a pop and Top 40 band and Decent. The next week, July 12, will feature Stackin' Eights, a southern rock band, Soul Circus, an R&B band and the Billy Wood & the Classic Country Band. And on July 19, The Crashers, a classic rock band, hiphop artist Kidd G and Michell Douglas are the slated acts.
The remaining FA5 schedule has yet to be released, with the season ending on Aug. 2.
