Velveeta brings cheesy '80s music to WIAC

Aug. 19—The Walk In Art Center is ending its summer concert series with a Labor Day blowout on Sunday, Sept. 3 with Velveeta, a popular band at Penn State's University Park campus.

The concert is planned for the WIAC's Outdoor Concert Space and starts at 7 p.m.. Tickets are $10.

Velveeta was formed in State College in 1995 by some musician types as a fun little side project to play some cheesy 1980s music. It turned into a long-running act as the band expanded its song selection and performed far and wide.

From backyard parties to bars and clubs to weddings and corporate events to internet streams, Velveeta has done it all. Even almost 30 years later, the group continues to win the "Best of State College" poll in the local newspaper.

"These guys are so fun," WIAC Executive Director Jacquie Engel said. "We hope to have our new performance pavilion erected by then to end the summer with a cool outside bash."

In the event of rain or construction delays, the concert will be held in the Walk In's Main Gallery.

"I'm so excited to be in town for Velveeta this year!" said Mandy Fitzpatrick, PSU alum and director of Schuylkill County's VISION. "I told Jacquie about them but couldn't see them last summer." It's gonna be a fun party at the Walk In on Labor Day weekend.

Tickets are $10, and food and beverages will be available at the concert. Visit walkinartcenter.org and click on Event Registration to get tickets. Check out 80scheese.com for clips and info.
