Vanna White says hosting 'Wheel of Fortune' again is 'not at the top of my list'

After taking over hosting duties while Wheel of Fortune co-star Pat Sajak recovered from emergency surgery for a blocked intestine, Vanna White has folks wondering if she’d ever be up for another spin at the wheel.

"Uhm, it's not at the top of my list," the 63-year-old game show legend admitted to Mo Rocca during an interview with CBS Sunday Morning. "I loved being there, I loved doing it. But I was so nervous. Maybe if I did it a few more times, I would feel better about it. But I'm my worst critic."

After 37 years of turning letters, White spent three weeks hosting in Sajak’s absence last December. While there were a few hitches — including some on-air gaffes and criticism Sajak called “nasty” — her short stint earned high praise from her longtime colleague.

“The fact that she did it speak volumes about her," Sajak, 73, told Rocca "It would have been very easy for her to say, 'I'm sorry, this is not what I do.' But the audience was rooting for her and almost proud to see her up there."

Sajak added that White is often top of his fans’ minds, with “Where’s Vanna?” being a frequent question.

“As if I carry her around with me and put her in the overhead compartment when I travel, which I don't by the way,” he quipped.

Before her first episode as host aired, White spoke to the New York Times about her on-the-job jitters.

"Normally I just stand there and I turn my letters, and I’m just happy as can be not having to worry about anything else," she told the newspaper. "But here I am controlling the game. So logistically, it was much harder. But I know every aspect of the game, which helped so much."

And from the sound of it, nerves aren’t anything new. Sajak told Rocco that he was initially skeptical of White’s ability to star on the show when she first auditioned back in 1982.

“Not that she wasn't lovely and wonderful and personable and all that, but she was the most nervous, by far, of any of them,” he said.
