Vanna White Hasn’t Talked to Hugh Hefner Since He Put Her on ‘Playboy’ in 1987

Vanna White was on The Wendy Williams Show and talked about the time she wound up on the cover of Playboy. “Vanna, you’ve had such a squeaky image,” said host Wendy Williams to an agreeing White. “But there was one hiccup that I do remember, and that was you on Playboy. And that was a big deal because Vanna is, you know, apple pie.”

“I wasn’t on there because I wanted to be,” said The Wheel of Fortune star. “What happened was when I moved to Hollywood, I was too embarrassed to ask my dad for money for rent, so I did some lingerie shoots like we all do sometimes.” The audience chuckled at the idea of everyone at some point doing a lingerie shoot (we don’t all look like you, Ms. White).

Somehow Playboy found the photographs, and as White told Williams, “Hugh Hefner … bought the pictures. … He was my friend. He said, ‘We’re going to put you on the cover.’ I said, ‘Hef, if you put me on the cover, my career could be ruined.’ And they did it anyway.”

When Williams asked White if she’s talked to Hefner in the nearly 30 years that have passed, she said, “I don’t talk to him, no. I mean, I feel bad, it was a long time ago, but that really hurt my feelings.”
