Vanessa Hudgens admits she was ‘definitely crying’ after winning ‘The Masked Singer’ as Goldfish [Exclusive Video Interview]

“It got me. I was extremely emotional. I was definitely crying,” admits award-winning actress Vanessa Hudgens while discussing her “The Masked Singer” win as Goldfish. “It ended meaning so much more to me than a normal win would because it had nothing to do with the celebrity of me or the idea of me. It had everything to do with what I on the inside bring to the table and my talents. It ended up definitely meaning the world.”

The actress says she worked closely with her producer while choosing songs throughout the season. “I didn’t go into this trying to hide who I was,” she reveals. “I was kind of being really cheeky about the musical choices. ‘Vampire’ was by Olivia Rodrigo, who plays Gabriella in the new ‘High School Musical.’ I thought that was hilarious, and just a great song. But when I came into this I really wanted to sing jazz because that’s just my favorite genre, I love singing jazz. I got to have ‘Unforgettable’ be that little jazzy moment.”

The first panelist to figure out Vanessa’s identity was Rita Ora. So what was that connection? “Rita’s been a friend of mine for a few years now,” she explains. “We were actually together probably two weeks before we started filming the show, in New York, and sitting front row at the Michael Kors show together and just catching up. She texted me and was like, ‘I’m gonna be in L.A., let me know when we can catch up and have dinner,’ and I was like, ‘Oh my God, perfect! I’m gonna be in L.A. too!’ Then I realized she was a judge, and then I sang my first song and she guessed it was me and I was like, ‘Well, there goes our dinner’ because I can’t lie to her face!”

When asked which singer inspired her most as a kid, the answer is quick and easy. “Celine Dion,” Vanessa says instantly. “I had her album in my karaoke machine and I would sing ‘The Power of Love’ when I was like seven years old every single day.”

Vanessa can next be seen starring alongside Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in “Bad Boys 4.” She promises the movie scheduled for release on June 5 is full of “big action” and “big laughs.” She adds, “It’s a really good time and it’s an honor to be a part of the franchise.”
