SHEBOYGAN - The season of love is approaching!

Valentine's Day is Feb. 14. Here are a few restaurants to visit, events to attend and local chocolates to buy to make your Valentine's Day a special one.

The Blind Horse

The Blind Horse will be offering a special Valentine's Day menu that will be available Feb. 12 and Feb. 14.

The restaurant, at 6018 Superior Ave., will feature a three-course menu specifically curated for the intimate holiday.

The first course includes a choice between a roasted parsnip bisque or a grain salad. Following is the second course, an entrée choice between pan-seared tilefish or grilled filet mignon. Both come with their own sides.

The third course, the desert, offers a choice between a passion fruit tart or dark chocolate dome cake.

The three-course meal costs $70 per person. For an additional $25, you can add a wine pairing of choice.

In November 2021, The Blind Horse debuted its first sparkling wine, The Blind Horse 2019 Brut. According to its website, the sparkling wine will join the restaurant's special Ice Wine as the only two wines made with 100% Wisconsin grapes.

"Wisconsin-grown grapes naturally have desirable attributes to create a sparkling wine rivaling any great French Champagne or California Sparkling Wine,” their website stated.

The 2019 Brut was just featured in a Forbes article as one of the best wines to pair with oysters on Valentine's Day.

"Made with La Crosse grapes from the nearby White Tail Vineyards, this bubbly boasts green apple on the mid palate with a dry, crisp acuity with just a hint of sweetness," the article states.

In October 2020, The Blind Horse became the first restaurant in the United States to install Far-UVC 222 light technology, Healthe Space, that provides real-time mitigation of pathogens and viruses.

According to its website, Healthe Space is a ceiling-mounted light that produces a combination of general illumination and Far-UVC 222 sanitizing light to clean air and surfaces.

"Real time mitigation of the virus has been our goal since this crisis began," general manager Thomas Nye said in an article on their website. "The suite of safety protocols and technology that we are installing is extensive and unprecedented in our industry. Our customers have come to expect The Blind Horse to be a leader, and we are proud to be at the forefront in utilizing this technology in the restaurant and winery industry.”

Reservations are suggested for those who would like to attend. To make a reservation, call 920-467-8599 or visit https://theblindhorse.com/.

Harry's Prohibition Bistro

Harry's Prohibition Bistro adds the golden touch to its Valentine's Day menu this year.

For Valentine's Day weekend, the restaurant, 668 S. Pier Drive, will be making a few additions to its menu and featuring a dish specifically for the holiday.

Complimentary edible flowers will be placed on each entrée over the weekend, including the Bistro Meatball entrée, which is the featured dish.

The meatball will be cooked and placed on top of a tomato pasta then topped with an edible 24-karat gold leaf foil.

Their bar will also feature its special drink for the holiday. The signature Giggle Water champagne cocktail will also be decorated with 24-karat gold leaf.

Harry's Prohibition Bistro is not open on Mondays, therefore it'll be closed on Valentine's Day. The Valentine's Day menu will be available the Thursday, Friday and Saturday before the holiday.

The restaurant does not accept reservations, so customers who are interested should try to get there early to avoid any wait times.

In Celebration of Chocolate

Destination Kohler will be hosting a number of events, including its annual In Celebration of Chocolate dinner, just in time for the holiday.

Feb. 11-13, Destination Kohler will be hosting a series of events at The American Club Resort at 419 Highland Drive in Kohler.

On Feb. 12, Chocolate Hearts and Mimosas will be one of the first events of the day. Head chocolatier at Kohler Chocolates, Crystal Thomas, will host the event at the Appley Theatre.

She will be creating pairings of mimosas and chocolates from Kohler's signature chocolate heart collection. The event will last from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Pairings include four chocolate samples and four mimosa samples for those who attend.

"This year, we are taking this fan favorite pairing and are giving it an extra spin with some fun custom pieces just in time for Valentine's Day," the website stated.

Tickets to the event are $44.99 and can be purchased ahead of time on their website.

That same day, a cheese and chocolate pairing event will be hosted in the Appley Theatre from 2 to 3 p.m.

Thomas will again host the event, alongside Sofia Auricchio Krans of BelGioioso Cheese, and the two will showcase some of the best pairings of cheese, chocolate and wine.

The seminar includes three or more chocolate samples, Belgioioso cheese samples and two wine samples.

Tickets will be $44.99 and can be purchased online ahead of time.

The In Celebration of Chocolate wine dinner will take place from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Feb. 12.

The four-course dinner will take place at The American Club Great Lakes Ballroom. It will feature courses from BelGioioso Cheese, Lucas Oppeneer, The American Club special events chef and Nicolas Blouin, the head pastry chef.

Wine pairings for the dinner will be specifically selected from Kobrand Fine Wine and Spirits.

The dinner is exclusive to those who purchase the Chocolate Indulgence package or the Sweet Escape package for the weekend event.

Packages can range from $238 to $605 per person, depending on which package you select and where you'll be staying.

Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test is required for participation at all events.
