Usher Turned The World To “The A,” And “The A” Thanked Him With Awards

Usher is an indelible part of Atlanta’s history and wears his city pride on his sleeve. The 45-year-old superstar returned home and was treated like royalty with multiple major recognitions.

He was given the Phoenix Award, which is given to “individual or group for their outstanding service to the city.” He gave his flowers to the city in his acceptance speech, saying, “Atlanta is a city of belief. Atlanta is a city that allowed me to be that Phoenix to rise. It is a city that has allowed me to have the tenacity to go out and share this culture that I found when I was here.”

He was also honored with a spot on the Black Music And Entertainment Walk Of Fame just three years after being part of the inaugural class of inductees. Mayor Andre Dickens referenced the Confessions artist’s Super Bowl LVIII halftime performance, saying, “The whole world got to see that Usher brought the world to the A.”

As if that wasn’t enough, Atlanta residents were given more than just Valentine’s Day to celebrate on February 14th; Fulton County officially named that date “Usher Day” moving forward. What a week it’s been for a guy who performed at the Super Bowl and married his longtime girlfriend Jennifer Goicoechea.

He also released his new album Coming Home this past Friday (Feb. 9). The 20-song LP featured 21 Savage, Summer Walker, Latto, Pheelz, The-Dream, and more.

Usher’s halftime performance included hits like “Confessions,” “My Boo,” “Yeah!” and “OMG” with appearances from Alicia Keys, H.E.R, Ludacris, and Lil’ Jon. The Sunday performance (Feb. 11) moved past Dr. Dre and Rihanna’s as the new, most-viewed Super Bowl halftime show ever. Watch below.
