Usher Calls Super Bowl Halftime Show “A Performance 30 Years In The Making” In Official Trailer

In just a few weeks, Usher will take over the world’s biggest stage — the Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show. Ahead of that, he’s shared the official trailer for his highly-anticipated performance, calling it a show that’s been 30 years in the making.

The minute-long video montage showcases fans paying homage to the crooner as archival footage from pivotal moments throughout his career seamlessly weave together into a brilliant spin of his hit record, “Yeah!.”

The tagline reads, “one performance; 30 years in the making.” This is the second time he used one of his classics to tease the show; he first used the skit from the “Confessions, Pt. 2” video to support the official announcement.

Back in September when it was confirmed that he’d be headlining the Halftime Show, Ursher expressed in a statement, “It’s an honor of a lifetime to finally check a Super Bowl performance off my bucket list. I can’t wait to bring the world a show unlike anything else they’ve seen from me before. Thank you to the fans and everyone who made this opportunity happen. I’ll see you real soon.”

Following the end of his acclaimed Las Vegas residency, the 45-year-old has reportedly cut alcohol and sugar from his diet to ensure he’s in pristine condition for the upcoming show. The set occurs two days after the release of his long-awaited new album, Coming Home. Rumor has it that a tour will follow the Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show, but the hearsay has yet to be substantiated.

Three singles from the new album are currently available: “Good Good” featuring 21 Savage and Summer Walker — which ranked No. 4 on VIBE‘s Best R&B Songs of 2023 list — “Risk It All” featuring H.E.R., and “Standing Next To You” featuring Jung Kook.

This will be the second performance since Apple Music took over the Halftime Show, following Pepsi’s tenure. Rihanna’s was the first and made viewing history after she revealed her second pregnancy onstage.

Additionally, Usher is also making history as the first independent artist to tackle the coveted stage. He explained to Complex, “I will be the first ever INDEPENDENT artist to play the Super Bowl. It’s a big moment, you know what I’m sayin’? Don’t get me wrong: legacy is obviously what gets you there because you’ve got to have a catalogue in order to stand on that stage, and the ability to captivate a crowd, but I’m more proud than anything to say that I’m representing all the independent artists out there as well.”
