Our favorite day of the month is Book club day, and this month's discussion with actor Richard E. Grant about his memoir "A Pocketful of Happiness" (Simon & Schuster, out now) gave us all the feelings!

In his book, the Oscar-nominated British actor (“Can You Ever Forgive Me?”) writes tenderly about his marriage to Joan Washington, who died in September 2021 after being diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. He describes their relationship as a 38-year-long conversation, one that he continues even now that she’s gone through shared letters and diary entries that seek to honor her dying edict: that Grant try to find a pocketful of happiness in every single day.

In his own poetic cadence, Grant explained his grief journey as he approaches the two-year anniversary of her death and how the experience of death from a terminal illness changed his relationship with friends and family.

You can watch the entire conversation between Grant and USA TODAY’s David Oliver on YouTube and here:
