USA Network’s Sniper Drama ‘Shooter’ Delayed a Week, Due to Dallas Tragedy
USA Network has delayed the premiere of its new sniper drama, Shooter, in the wake of a sniper’s July 7 ambush of Dallas police officers that left five dead and several others wounded.

Based on a Stephen Hunter novel (Point of Impact) and the 2007 Mark Wahlberg film, Shooter stars Ryan Phillippe (Secrets and Lies) as Bob Lee Swagger, a highly decorated ex-Marine sniper who is coaxed back into action after he learns about a plot to kill the president.
“In light of recent tragic events and out of respect for the victims, their families and our viewers, we have decided to postpone the premiere date for the upcoming USA Network series Shooter to July 26,” a USA Network rep said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
Shooter was to debut Tuesday, July 19; it will now bow a week later, on July 26.
USA Network’s scheduling sensitivity comes on the heels of TNT pushing back the Season 3 premiere of The Last Ship, which featured a nightclub shooting that echoed the June 12 massacre at an Orlando nightclub, which left 50 people dead and dozens more injured.
USA Network itself delayed the Season 1 finale of Mr. Robot last August, because of a scene in which a man shot himself on live TV. That sequence was deemed too disturbing in the immediate wake of the real-life, on-air shooting of a Moneta, Va. TV reporter.
