This Is Us: William Reveals Hidden Talent, Backstory in Sneak Peek

One unexpected perk of meeting your biological father late in life: All of his stories are new to you.

So in this exclusive sneak peek at Tuesday’s This Is Us (NBC, 9/8c), when William starts explaining how he came by the scar on his right arm, everyone in Randall’s family sits up and pays attention.

As the elderly man efficiently styles Annie’s hair before school one morning, Tess wonders aloud about a nasty mark on his forearm. Beth, likely worried that the tale behind the injury is related to William’s past drug abuse, quickly moves to shut the storytelling down. But the truth is nowhere near terrible — and it makes Randall look at his biodad in a new way.

RELATED2017 Renewal Scorecard: What’s Coming Back? What’s Getting Cancelled? What’s on the Bubble?

Per the episode’s official synopsis: “Rebecca and Jack take Kevin, Kate, and Randall to the community pool on a hot day and quickly realize each child is going through their own struggles. Kevin auditions for his first Broadway play in New York and meets a determined actress who is less than impressed by him. Toby runs into his ex-wife while at a restaurant with Kate, which sends Kate into a spiral of self-doubt. William is mistakenly reported as a loiterer in Randall’s predominately white neighborhood, which exposes deep-rooted issues of race.”
