'This Is Us' star Justin Hartley worked it out with fan's husband who called him an 'a**hole'

On Tuesday’s Late Late Show With James Corden, Justin Hartley of This Is Us described an encounter with one of the show’s many fans. As he was heading into the Super Bowl, a man approached him and opened with a positive ice-breaker.

“He walks up to me and says, ‘Hey, I gotta tell you, my wife thinks you’re really handsome,’” Hartley said. “I was like, ‘OK. I don’t know how to respond to that.’”

He said, “Well, tell your wife ‘thank you’ and I’ll tell my mom ‘thank you.'”

That’s when things started to get a little more tense, Hartley said, recalling the encounter. “And he goes, ‘I think you’re an asshole.’ I said, ‘Buddy, I don’t know you.’ And he’s like, ‘Yeah, but I have to sit and listen to her say that.’”

Luckily Hartley, who plays Kevin on the show, is used to the passionate fans.

And with comments like those a constant thing, Hartley proved he is ready for anything.

“We worked it out,” Hartley said. “But there was a window there where I thought, ‘I don’t know if this guy’s been drinking already.’ I didn’t know. I kind of took a step back, and I was like, ‘Are we going to do this here before the Super Bowl?’”

The Late Late Show With James Corden airs weeknights at 12:37 a.m. on CBS.
