‘This Is Us’ Ratings Top Night As Dodgers Win, ‘American Housewife’ Solid In Week 2
UPDATED WITH FINALS: Even with the local competition of the Los Angeles Dodgers winning Game 3 of the National League Championship Series at home over the Chicago Cubs to take a 2-1 lead in the series, Tuesday night was a good turn at bat for NBC. While The Voice (2.5/9, after upward adjustment in the finals) was off by a tenth, lead-out This Is Us (2.6/9) again bettered the heavyweight reality show to finish as the night’s highest-rated show — and that’s with the Dan Fogelman-created drama losing two-tenths itself from its October 11 episode.
With a 10 PM Chicago Fire (1.6/6 after a downward adjustment) down two-tens from last week’s season premiere, the Comcast-owned net easily won the night among adults 18-49 with a 2.2/8 rating. Viewership-wise, with an even NCIS (1.8/7) pulling in a night-topping 14.54 million, CBS was No. 1 with 12.10 million overall.
For the House of Moonves, Bull (1.6/6) and NCIS: New Orleans (1.2/5) were even in the key demo with their October 11 episodes.
Even was not the case for most of ABC’s night. Newbie American Housewife (1.7/6) did the best, off by a respectable -11% among 18-49s from its premiere last week, once again the top ABC program of the night and building on its lead-in, The Middle (1.5/6), which was down 17%. Fellow comedies Fresh Off The Boat (1.3/5) and The Real O’Neals (0.9/3 after a downward adjustment) took 19% and 25% drops, respectively, from their season debuts October 11. Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. (0.7/3) saw a fall of two-tenths (-22%) to hit a series low.
Scream Queens (0.6/2) was off by a tenth, though Brooklyn-Nine-Nine (0.9/3) and New Girl (0.9/3) remained stayed the same for Fox. The Flash (1.0/4) lost a bit of its pace with a 9% dip to a current series low from last week’s final numbers for Episode 2 of Season 3, which were adjusted up from earlier that day. The real speedster for the CW last night, and one sure to cause much joy over there, was No Tomorrow (0.3/1). With its third episode, the new fantasy comedy-drama was up a tenth (50% of a very small base) in the demo and 15% in total viewers (854,000) over its October 11 episode. That’s still down 40%, however, from the show’s October 4 debut, when it faced the first and only VP debate of the election.
With Empire pre-empted, tonight finds everyone but the CW airing the third and final Presidential debate of the 2016 campaign as Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump try to draw blood one last time face-to-face. It’s also Game 4 of Dodgers-Cubs.
