‘This Is Us’ Ratings Rise Again, David Blaine Special Down From 2013

A week ago, America was electing a former NBC reality show host President of the United States but last night the Comcast-owned net scored another win in the ratings as a certain magic man couldn’t pull off the same trick twice.

Back after being pre-empted by the election on November 8, This Is Us (2.6/9) proved once again to be the most muscular new drama of the season so far. Not only did the Dan Fogelman multi-decade family series top Tuesday among adults 18-49 for the fifth showing in a row and build on it’s The Voice (2.1/7) lead-in again but saw a 13% rise over its last original two weeks ago.

With Voice coming in even with its last Tuesday show back on October 25 and 10 PM’s Chicago Fire (1.5/6) even with its November 1 airing, NBC won the night in the key demo with a 2.0/7 rating. CBS took the number #1 spot viewershipwise with an audience of 11.8 million.

It was a pretty steady night for the House of Moonves with NCIS (1.7/6) and Bull (1.5/6) even with their last originals. However, facing the time slot topping David Blaine: Beyond Magic (1.6/6) at 10 PM, NCIS: New Orleans (1.2/4) took a demo dip of 8% from its last new show of October 25.

Shuffling onto that star-heavy Blaine special, it was ultimately mixed result for ABC. While winning its time period, the 1-hour special fell 38% among the 18-49s from the last time Blaine was on the Disney-owned net three years ago. Worth noting, that November 19, 2013 Blaine special was 90-minutes long on a Wednesday as opposed to the 60 minutes of last night’s show.

Not that ABC will be too upset with the results that their comedies snagged in their return last night. The Middle (1.6/6) was up 14% over its last original of November 1 while newbie American Housewife bopped up 7%. Then Fresh Off The Boat (1.3/4) jumped up 18% among the 18-49s and 9:30 PM’s The Real O’Neals (1.1/4) saw the biggest rise of the night with a 38% increase over its last new show, its second best result since the Season 2 debut of October 11.

The Flash (1.2/4) also had its best night since its latest season premiere with a rise of 20% over last week’s show, once of the few originals on against Election Night programming. Newbie No Tomorrow (0.3/1) had a 12% viewership rise to 855,000 but was even in the 18-49 demo. Back after both the election and the high rated World Series, Fox’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine (0.9/3), New Girl (0.9/3) and Scream Queens (0.6/2) were all even with their October 18 shows.
