Us the Duo Reveal They've Divorced: 'We Still Have So Much Love for Each Other'

Folk-pop duo Michael and Carissa Alvarado first tied the knot in 2012, and have since released five studio albums and appeared on 'America's Got Talent'

Us the Duo's Michael and Carissa Alvarado have announced their divorce.

On Thursday, the husband-and-wife folk music duo announced in an Instagram post that they are "no longer married" — but still have some new releases planned for 2024.

"Us The Duo was created back in 2012 as a place for us to share our music with the world," the couple wrote in a lengthy Instagram caption, alongside a photo of Michael, 34, Carissa, 33, and their 5-year-old daughter walking hand-in-hand on a beach.

"...In the meantime, we did want to let you know a bit about our personal lives," they continued. "The two of us are no longer married, but we still have so much love for each other, and most importantly, for our daughter Xyla."

The pair added that they are still working together as co-parents for Xyla, who has "transitioned wonderfully into this new normal and is still her happy and joyful self!"

"We’ve been living on our own separate journeys for quite some time now and although life looks a little bit different than before, we are both still creating and absolutely love being the best co-parents we can," they added.

The former couple also took time to thank their dedicated fans, and acknowledged those who have incorporated their music into major parts of their lives — such as walking down the aisle to it at their weddings or getting a tattoo in tribute of their lyrics.

"We know our music means so much to you all, as it does to us," Michael and Carissa continued. "... The message, the feelings and the love in our past music will always be our truth for that time in our lives and we hope you’ll continue to cherish the music and your memories attached to it for eternity."

The pair also announced their upcoming projects, including "never-heard-before singles," remixes of their old tracks, their well-known Top Hits medleys and a Christmas release.

"Thank you for all your support over the past 12 years. We love you all so much. 💕" the pair finished.

The former couple first tied the knot in 2012, and welcomed their daughter Xyla in 2018. They first came to popularity in 2013, when they began sharing covers of pop songs to the now-defunct video app Vine, and began releasing music as Us the Duo a year later.

One of the Alvarado's most viral moments came in 2014, when they released the first of their annual medleys comprised of the biggest pop songs from the past year. Over the course of their careers, they released five studio albums, toured with Pentatonix, had their music included in a feature film, and even competed on America's Got Talent.

In 2021, the then-couple spoke with PEOPLE about their future career plans, and Michael said he simply hoped they would still be releasing music a decade from now,

"It took a lot of work to get here just internally," Michael said at the time. "Making choices along the way of doing things that bring us joy every day. We love what we do with our music and for work, and we just want to keep doing that every day that we possibly can. So if in 5 to 10 years from now we're still doing this. That's all we can hope for."
