‘The Upshaws’ Are Back This Spring For Part 5 With Hilarious Trailer

Netflix has announced the return of hit sitcom The Upshaws with a hilarious trailer for part five. With recurring stars Mike Epps, Wanda Sykes and Kim Fields, this season picks up from part four, where the family had a hard decision to make regarding their financial future.

According to part five’s synopsis; “The Upshaws continue to ride life’s ups and downs, including new jobs, bigger dreams, health struggles and some major life surprises but still hang on with the love that comes with family.”

In the trailer, Regina (Fields) and Bennie (Epps) navigate their teenage children beginning to date as Lucretia (Sykes) and Bennie’s relationship continues to be full of low-blow jokes, pettiness, and disdain for one another. Elsewhere in the clip, Benny continues to run his mechanic shop, where he’s now learning how to fix electric cars, which he deems “an iphone on wheels.”

The forthcoming six-episode season will see Epps, Fields and Sykes return to the screen along with the co-stars Diamond Lyons (Kelvin Upshaw), Khali Spraggins (Aaliyah Upshaw), Jermelle Simon (Bernard Upshaw), Gabrielle Dennis (Tasha Lewis), Journey Christine (Maya Upshaw) and more.

In 2021, Epps spoke on the idea behind The Upshaws with Forbes.

“This is the first show that I’ve starred in that I’ve ever had picked up,” he said. “I’m just crossing my fingers and hoping that everybody loves it and Netflix wants to bring it back. We’ve got so many more stories. I’ve been pitching stories, and Wanda’s been like, ‘Wait a minute now. Slow down.’”

“I’ve tried so many different TV shows, and in this business, pairing up with the right people, pairing up with the right cast, that’s the only way for it to work,” he continued. “My team and I brought this idea to Wanda and Regina, and they loved it right away. It sounded like a throwback. It also sounded new. I think just getting the right nucleus together made me want to do this and with these people.”
