Updated Chiefs draft picks following compensatory pick announcement

The NFL has officially awarded compensatory draft picks to teams for the 2021 NFL draft, and the Kansas City Chiefs are among the eight teams to receive two picks. Kansas City earned two Day 3 picks as a result of the losses of Emmanuel Ogbah and Kendall Fuller during the 2020 free agency period.

Here’s an updated look at the eight picks that the Chiefs currently hold:

  • Round 1, Pick 31

  • Round 2, Pick 63

  • Round 3, Pick 95

  • Round 4, Pick ??

  • Round 4, Pick 144 (Kendall Fuller comp pick)

  • Round 5, Pick ??

  • Round 5, Pick 181 (Emmanuel Ogbah comp pick)

  • Round 6, Pick ?? (Acquired in trade for RB DeAndre Washington).

The NFL hasn’t yet announced the full draft order yet. We’ll soon know where the Chiefs are picking in Rounds 4, 5, and 6 once they do.

If the Chiefs don’t trade out of pick No. 63, this will be the third consecutive season they’ve made a pick at that spot. The previous two selections landed DB Juan Thornhill and LB Willie Gay Jr., so they seem to be pretty good at acquiring defensive talent at that draft slot.

Additionally, when it comes to the compensatory picks, it’s worth noting that L’Jarius Sneed and Mike Danna were both taken in the fourth and fifth round respectively. Two of the biggest defensive standouts from the 2020 draft class came in the two rounds that the Chiefs now have multiple picks in. That seems like good news for Brett Veach and his staff.
