Attention horror fans, we're walking through the terrifying but exhilarating revival of the genre at the moment. Supernatural ghost stories, fake blood, gore and jump scares are welcome all year round and, thankfully, there are a bunch of chilling horror movies planned to come our way within the next few years. Whether it's the return of popular franchises like A Quiet Place and Alien or original scares from new filmmakers, there are a ton of upcoming horror movies to get ready for.

We have a solid line up of horror titles confirmed to be available to enter our eyeballs throughout what’s left of 2023 and into 2024, with more to come that has yet to land a specific release date on the calendar, as well. Night Swim - January 5, 2024

When it comes to upcoming 2024 movies in the horror genre there’s a lot to look forward to, starting in January with Night Swim. Following the success of M3GAN in 2023 in January, Blumhouse and Atomic Monster have set up another scary movie for early next year with Night Swim. The thriller will be about a hidden terror in the depths of a backyard swimming pool. The movie is set to star 2023 Oscar nominee Kerry Condon along with Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s Wyatt Russell.

Founders Day - January 19, 2024

After another American holiday was turned into a slasher in late 2023 with Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving, early 2024 is offering up Founders Day. In the United States, Founder’s Day is the celebration of Great Britain accepting defeat in the American Revolutionary War in 1782. This movie is a “political slasher” about a small town that becomes the target of a series of killings being executed by a mysterious red-masked person leading up to the election of a new mayor.

Lisa Frankenstein - February 9, 2024

Robin Williams’ daughter Zelda Williams has found her feature film debut with horror rom-com, Lisa Frankenstein. The movie was written by Diablo Cody, who previously penned Juno and Jennifer’s Body, and it stars Kathryn Newton, Cole Sprouse and Carla Gugino. Lisa Frankenstein follows a teen girl (Newton) living in 1989 who decides to reanimate a handsome corpse from the Victorian Era (Sprouse) and make him into the man of her dreams. This sounds like a fun twist on the classic Frankenstein story!

Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 - February 16, 2024

After one of the wildest concepts ever for a horror movie haunted 2023 with WInnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, Hollywood is going to honor us with a second helping with a sequel. After the $100,000 British slasher turned a profit with a 5.2 million box office haul another movie is well on the way and expected to come out around one year after the first installment. Per the writer/director to THR, in the second movie Pooh and his friends will be “leaving the 100 Acre Wood to take their fight to the quiet community of Ashdown!”

Imaginary - March 8, 2024

The Witcher’s Ciri actress Freya Allan is set to star in an upcoming horror movie called Baghead. “Baghead” refers to a shapeshifting witch who can manifest the dead and bring them back into the world of the living for a short time. Baghead is a figure that people seek out in order to get in touch with their loved ones, but little do they know the price they must pay to bring back the dead for a few short moments. Baghead will be Alberto Corredor’s feature film debut after he helmed a short film based on the same concept.

The First Omen - April 5, 2024

It’s been over 30 years since a movie from The Omen franchise has been released in the form of the TV movie, Omen IV: The Awakening. After that film was not received well, it’s understandable why its studio took a break from the supernatural horror series, but it’s coming back this spring with The First Omen. The movie will serve as a prequel to the original 1976 The Omen as an American woman is sent to work at a church in Rome and comes across a disturbing conspiracy about the birth of an Antichrist.

Untitled Universal Monster Movie - April 19, 2024

Scream has been revitalized in the past few years with the help of filmmakers, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. After making the fifth and sixth Scream installments, they are helming an untitled Universal monster movie starring Scream star Melissa Barrera along with Kathryn Newton, Dan Stevens, Kevin Durand and Angus Cloud. Plot details for the upcoming movie are being kept under the wraps right now, but given the release date we imagine we’ll find out sooner than later.

Immaculate - April 25, 2024

Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney is set to lead a horror movie called Immaculate, which will have her once again collaborating with Michael Mohan after starring in his 2021 movie, The Voyeurs. Immaculate will be about a devoutly religious woman fulfilling a new role in an Italian convent when she finds out her home has some “dark and horrifying secrets,” per Deadline.

The Watchers - June 7, 2024

M. Night Shyamalan’s daughter, Ishana Night Shyamalan has her directorial debut lined up with The Watchers. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Dakota Fanning will star as an artist who gets stranded in an “expansive, untouched forest” in western Ireland and unknowingly becomes trapped with three strangers that are being “watched and stalked by mysterious creatures at night.” Ishana wrote the film based on a novel of the same name by A.M. Shine. Plus, her famed father is producing the film and New Line won a bidding war to back the film.

A Quiet Place: Day One - June 28, 2024

John Krasinski has successfully created an intriguing and scary world where humanity must stay silent in order to survive the aliens who have inhabited Earth. After A Quiet Place Part II became a theatrical hit, amidst pandemic challenges, another Quiet Place movie is on the way in 2024. This movie will be a standalone Quiet Place spinoff that is being directed by Pig’s Michael Sarnoski based on an idea by Krasinski, to what we imagine will dive into the invasion’s origins. The third Quiet Place film from the core franchise is expected to come after this movie as well.

Horrorscope - June 28, 2024

Horror fans can also look forward to Screen Gems’ Horrorscope next summer starring Spider-Man actor Jacob Batalon, Alana Boden, Adain Bradley and Avantika. The movie is about a group of college friends who get their horoscopes read and then begin dying off in ways that are connected to their readings. The movie is based on the 1992 novel by Nicholas Adams and serves as a feature film debut for writer/directors Anna Halberg and Spenser Cohen, per Deadline.

Trap - August 2, 2024

M. Night Shyamalan’s next feature after A Knock at the Cabin awaits with Trap. Per The Sixth Sense filmmaker, the movie is a “psychological thriller set at a concert,” according to Deadline. While other details are thin, the movie will be Shyamalan’s first collaboration with Warner Bros in some time after partnering with Universal on his last five movies. The Trap release date is set for August.

Speak No Evil - August 9, 2024

One of the most messed up horror movies of 2022 was Danish film Speak No Evil, which debuted at Sundance before landing on Shudder. Now, Hollywood is already remaking the movie about a family’s weekend vacation gone terribly wrong. The upcoming movie will star Mackenzie Davis and James McAvoy and is being helmed by James Watkins.

Alien: Romulus - August 16, 2024

The filmmaker behind the Don’t Breathe movies, Fede Alvarez, is set to put his mark on the Alien franchise next with Alien: Romulus, coming next fall. While we don’t know much about the plot, it’s reportedly a standalone Alien movie that will not be directly connected to the other films. The cast includes Mare of Easttown’s Cailee Spaeny, Dora and the Lost City of Gold’s Isabela Merced and Shadow & Bone’s Archie Renaux. Original Alien filmmaker Ridley Scott has already seen the movie, per the film’s director, and apparently told him it’s “fucking great.” So, it’s time to get excited!!

Dollhouse - August 30, 2024

Selena Gomez is getting into the horror genre as producer of STXfilms’ Dollhouse alongside 21 Laps’ Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen, as reported by Deadline. The movie is a psychological thriller that takes place in the world of New York City’s fashion scene. Dollhouse is set to be directed by Emma Tammi, who just found success by helming commercial hit, Five Night At Freddy’s.

Beetlejuice 2 - September 6, 2024

Tim Burton’s classic 1988 movie is finally getting a sequel starring Michael Keaton as you guessed it, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice! The horror comedy also set to be helmed by Burton will also see the return of Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara as Lydia and Delia Deetz. Plus, Wednesday’s Jenna Ortega, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci and Willem Dafoe have joined the cast of Beetlejuice 2 as well. The movie wrapped filming in late November. We can’t wait to spend the next spooky season with this franchise!

Smile 2 - October 18, 2024

Smile told the story of Sosie Bacon’s Dr. Rose Cutter, a therapist working at a psychiatric ward who becomes terrorized by a mysterious entity that takes over human bodies and makes them smirk as they get violent. After Parker Finn’s Smile was a huge success during the 2022 Halloween season, Paramount set an official release date for a sequel for the next spooky season. Details are thin about how the second Smile movie will be approached, including casting, but it’s great to see this original horror concept getting a sequel!

Terrifier 3 - October 25, 2024

After 2022’s Terrifier 2 went viral for fans vomiting in theaters, Art the Clown is set to haunt audiences in 2024 with a third installment coming just in time for Halloween. However, this Terrifier movie will be a Christmas horror movie, with one teaser already having the clown in Santa’s costume. Terrifier 3’s director has already teased that the first five minutes of the movie is going to be “very controversial,” so bring the barf bags just in case!?!

Untitled Jordan Peele Movie - December 25, 2024

Since the release of Get Out, Jordan Peele and the horror genre have become interwoven in really exciting ways. The filmmaker has followed up his Oscar-winning horror film with Us and Nope prior, and he has another movie with Universal dated for Christmas 2024, per Variety, but it doesn’t have a title or synopsis. We imagine it will be another exciting horror flick from the writer/director, but Peele is certainly one for surprises.

M3GAN 2.0 - January 17, 2025

M3GAN plans ahead. Not soon after the box office success of M3GAN in early 2023, it was announced that a sequel is in the works with the title M3GAN 2.0 and a set theatrical date. The screenwriter of the original, Akela Cooper, will write the script and Allison Williams and M3GAN herself, Violet McGraw, will be back.

The Exorcist: Deceiver - April 18, 2025

The Exorcist franchise was just rebooted by Halloween’s David Gordon Green to mixed results. The Exorcist: Believer opened to No. 1 at the box office to lower-than-expected numbers and primarily negative reviews from critics. While plans may in fact change following the reaction to Believer, a sequel from Universal called The Exorcist: Deceiver has already been added to the calendar for spring 2025.

The Black Phone 2 - June 27, 2025

After Joe Hill’s story story was successfully adapted in summer 2022 with Ethan Hawke as “The Grabber,” a sequel is on the way for 2025. It was announced that Blumhouse and Universal are teaming back up for The Black Phone 2 in October 2023, before it was then revealed that Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies and Miguel Mora are returning as the characters they played in the first film.
