UPCOMING EVENTS: WC Veterans Day ceremony, Gardeners' Club of PC, Quilter's Guild, WC staff art show

Nov. 7—WC to host annual Veterans Day Ceremony Nov. 9

Weatherford College invites the public to the annual Veterans Day Ceremony at 11:45 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, at the Ed Kramer Veterans Flag Plaza outside the Academic Building.

Visitors can park in the north lot, accessible from East Park Drive.

This year's guest speaker is Andy Williams, a Marine and creator of Rehab Warriors, a Department of Labor-certified apprenticeship program that delivers a challenging and meaningful mission-driven opportunity for veterans transitioning back to civilian life.

Arlington is the latest city to partner with Rehab Warriors on its Rebuilding the Fort Initiative, which provides a pathway for veterans to a career in affordable housing property development.

Williams is also the host of HGTV's Flip or Flop Fort Worth, the author of "Business is a Battleground" and a real estate developer. Aledo Mayor Nick Stanley, a close friend, will introduce Williams at the ceremony.

WC veteran students will present the flags, local Eagle Scouts will serve as the color guard and members of the WC choir and jazz orchestra will provide music. Veteran Lauren Tidwell will emcee.

WC to host faculty, staff art show

Weatherford College faculty and staff will display their artistic skills in a special art show next week. The public is invited to a reception to view the art from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9, in the Alkek Fine Arts Center.

"We want to showcase the many talented faculty and staff at WC," said art instructor Eben Hall, who organized the art show. "We're hosting this event to make the community aware of the scope of abilities represented at the college."

In addition to visual art pieces, staff will also perform music and other works of art. The art display will remain in Texas Hall through Nov. 17.
