Upcoming events at Del Mar College include poetry, music and theater

To celebrate National Poetry Month, Del Mar College is hosting a poetry reading by local poet Alan Berecka from his latest collection on April 24.

Berecka, who lives in Sinton, was Corpus Christi's first poet laureate in 2017.

Del Mar College Learning Resources will host Berecka from 6-7 p.m. at the Oso Creek Campus Library for a reading from "Atlas Sighs: Selected and New Poems", which was published this year.

The event is free and open to the public.

This is just one of several upcoming events held at Del Mar College.

Upcoming fine arts and cultural events include:

  • A celebratory concert by retired faculty member and classical guitarist Philip Hii and the college Wind Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18 in Richardson Performance Hall

  • Back-to-back performances by the college Concert Choir and Camber Signers and "Harmony in the Multiverse" performed by the Singer's Theater at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 19 in the Wolfe Recital Hall

  • The Del Mar College MWF Jazz Band Spring Concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 23 in the Richardson Performance Hall

  • A performance by Corpus Christi ISD students and the Del Mar College guitar ensemble at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 25 at the Veterans Memorial High School auditorium

  • Performance of "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" by Del Mar Drama at 7:30 p.m. April 18-20 and April 26-27 in the Sue Sellors Finley Theatre

  • A recital with guzheng virtuoso Jing Xia at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27 at the Wolfe Recital Hall

  • A recital by Mariachi Del Mar at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 29 at the Wolfe Recital Hall

  • The spring concert of the Del Mar College Percussion Ensemble, which will also highlight local high school percussionists, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 1.
