Univision News Anchor Leon Krauze Exits Network Days After Controversial Trump Interview

A prominent news anchor is leaving Univision’s news division, just days after the network ran a controversial interview with former President Trump.

Leon Krauz has been a national news anchor for Univision Noticias on Noticiero Univision Edición Nocturna and previously worked as an anchor at KMEX, the company’s Los Angeles station. It is not clear why Krauze exited the network, though a source said that he had time left on his contract.

“TelevisaUnivision expresses our heartfelt gratitude for the outstanding contributions, expertise, and insightful analyses delivered by Leon Krauze throughout his tenure with our news division,” the company said in a statement. “We sincerely appreciate his dedicated efforts in empowering and informing Hispanic communities at both the national and local levels for over a decade. We extend our best wishes to Leon in all his future professional endeavors.”

On his social accounts, Krauze said in Spanish that he appreciated the kind words he had received from people, and that he would “soon” release a statement about his “professional future.”

The departure comes as TelevisaUnivision has been facing scrutiny in the wake of the Trump interview, with The Washington Post reporting Tuesday that Democrats were alarmed at the tone and tenor of the interview, and angry that ads that the Biden administration had purchased to run during the Trump interview were canceled at the last minute.

The interview was conducted by the veteran journalist Enrique Acevedo, who anchors the Televisa newscast En punto, but who previously worked as a correspondent for CBS’ 60 Minutes, and moderated a 2016 presidential debate for Univision.

TelevisaUnivision also co-hosted a Republican primary debate in September, with its anchor Ilia Calderón serving as a moderator alongside hosts from Fox Business Network.
