Universal Studios Hollywood's Jurassic World ride 'just got real'

Life, as always, has found a way.

Following the extinction of Universal Studios Hollywood’s classic Jurassic Park ride last fall, the park is preparing to unveil its successor, Jurassic World — The Ride, which arrives this summer.

“It just got real,” promises (or threatens?) a new clip teasing the upcoming attraction, the story line of which takes place within the Jurassic World theme park on the day of the escape of the Indominus rex. The updated thrill ride will introduce several new dinosaurs from the 2015 continuation of the toothy sci-fi franchise, including “the magnificent aquatic Mosasaurus, [which] will mesmerize onlookers in her natural habitat from behind a 3-million-gallon glass encased aquarium observatory tank,” according to a press release.

Riding through the attraction on special rafts, “guests will navigate lush environs of dense vegetation, traversing new areas besieged with towering dinosaurs meandering at just an arm’s length away,” the release describes. “Encounters with such docile creatures as the Stegosaurus and Parasaurolophus will quickly turn awry as predatory Velociraptors and Dilophosaurus begin to wreak havoc, turning guests from spectators to prey.” The adventure will culminate when a ferocious dino-battle sends the rafts “down a treacherous 84-foot waterfall as the sole means of escape.”

The new incarnation of the ride will exist inside a redesigned Jurassic World area, including a makeover of the iconic entry gate, now “illuminated with billowing flames.” Adjacent to Jurassic World — The Ride will be the new Raptor Encounter, which will “engage guests in daring face-to-face encounters” with Blue the Velociraptor, and the interactive, educational Dino Play area will give children a chance to “explore and excavate giant dinosaur fossils.”
