Universal Pictures Sets Release Date for Blumhouse’s ‘The Black Phone 2’

Universal is set to release Blumhouse’s The Black Phone 2 on June 27, 2025, it was announced on Friday.
The sequel is a follow-up to director Scott Derrickson and Blumhouse’s 2022 horror phenomenon The Black Phone, which earned over $160 million worldwide. Universal plans a wide release in summer 2025 after the original Black Phone, based on a short story by Joe Hill, followed Finney, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy who was abducted by a sadistic killer, played by Ethan Hawke.

Trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use, a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, and Finney, played by Mason Thames, discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them does not happen to Finney.
The original film in the franchise was produced by Jason Blum for Blumhouse, and Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, who wrote the screenplay for The Black Phone that longtime collaborator Derrickson (Sinister, Doctor Strange) directed.
The Black Phone also starred Jeremy Davis and Madeleine McGraw and united Hawke with the filmmakers and producer of an early Blumhouse low-budget success story with the 2012 horror pic Sinister.
Cargill pitched Sinister to Derrickson, initiating their long-running creative partnership. Sinister would go on to make nearly 30 times its $3 million production budget, and the duo was then tapped by Marvel Studios to helm 2016’s Doctor Strange.
