'Unfinished business': Raiders announce Jon Gruden's return

Jon Gruden caused a lot of smirks on Saturday afternoon when broadcast partner Sean McDonough congratulated him on again becoming the head coach of the Oakland Raiders.

“Nothing’s official,” Gruden said before announcing the Titans-Chiefs game for ESPN.

But a few hours and one Chiefs collapse later, it finally was.

The Raiders sent out a release announcing Gruden’s return on the team’s various social media platforms. A news conference is set for Tuesday afternoon.

“The Oakland Raiders will host a press conference at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 9 to officially introduce Jon Gruden as the new head coach of the Silver and Black,” read the release, which made its way around social media during the Falcons-Rams game.

The news was announced on Twitter with the caption “Unfinished Business,” a reference to Gruden’s first tenure with the team. Though Gruden went 38-26 with two playoff appearances in four years with the Raiders, he did not lead the team to the Super Bowl.

With the team pledging a reported 10 years and $100 million to his second go-round, it’s safe to say that anything less than a Super Bowl ring will be considered a disappointment.
