Under new owners, Hydeout Kitchen & Bar continues the menu from Downtown Tavern and Lola's

The vintage neon sign that just says "Restaurant" has been a constant at 201 S. High St., even though the signs beneath it have changed regularly over the past decade.

The latest: Hydeout Kitchen & Bar, the name chosen by business partners Elvis Sarfo and Raeshon Antrum since purchasing what used to be Downtown Tavern. After a mid-January soft opening, they're now in full swing serving weekday lunch and weekend brunch, happy hour drinks, dinner and late-night bites.

Sarfo said his goal is to be a neighborhood bar for Downtown workers, residents and event-goers. Hydeout has been opening at 11 a.m. on weekdays and 11:30 a.m. on weekends. It has been open until 11 p.m., but Sarfo said that might change based on customer demand.

It's the second restaurant and bar venture for Sarfo and Antrum. They currently own the Living Room Restaurant & Lounge, 6857 Flags Center Drive in Northland, but Sarfo said they've been looking for a more food-driven business.

This is the fifth restaurant in the past decade at 201 S. High St., across the street from Columbus Commons and halfway between the Statehouse and Franklin County Government Center. Downtown Tavern, and Lola's before that, were owned by Lori and Kevin Ames.

The building was home to Tio's Tacos and Tequila from 2018 to 2021 and was occupied by deNovo, a high-end dining restaurant, from 2011 to 2018.

The menu created by Lori Ames for Lola's and Downtown Tavern remains in place for Hydeout, Sarfo said, but the new owners likely will add to it as they move forward.
