Oilers set NHL record with fifth consecutive comeback win

The Edmonton Oilers have now won five-straight games to open their season, and they’ve done it in record-setting style.

With a 4-1 win over the New York Rangers on Saturday afternoon, the Oilers have set an NHL record with their fifth consecutive come-from-behind win to start the season.

Rangers rookie sensation and the most recent second-overall pick, Kaapo Kakko, opened the scoring with his first career NHL goal, giving the Blueshirts the 1-0 lead. But four straight goals from Edmonton gave the team yet another come-from-behind victory early in the season.

The competition might not have been tough — only one of their five opponents made the playoffs last year — but the Oilers have been able to produce the right amount of offense to make this type of record achievable.

One of the main early-season stories has been the resurgence of James Neal and his league-leading seven goals.

But thanks to their elite talent up front — two goals from Leon Draisaitl and a single tally from Connor McDavid — the Oilers were able to secure their fifth win of the season over New York. Defenceman Oscar Klefbom scored the other goal for Edmonton.

The Oilers have the potential to extend this record as they face the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday.
