The temperature outside might be rising but things aren’t looking up for rapper Sean Kingston.

The Jamaican-American artist was reportedly arrested on fraud and theft charges on Thursday in California mere hours after his mansion in South Florida was raided. The rapper was taken in without incident. He was later booked into a San Bernadino jail, per HuffPost. In another unfortunate twist, Kingston’s mother was also arrested on fraud and theft charges, having been at the home at the time the Florida SWAT team conducted the raid.

In response to the news of his mother’s arrest and prior to his own, Kingston wrote in a since-deleted Instagram story post: “People love negative energy! I am good and so is my mother!.. my lawyers are handling everything as we speak.”

While local authorities in Florida are keeping a tight lip on details citing an “ongoing investigation,”according to CBS News, the raid and arrests stem from an ongoing civil case over incomplete payments.

CBS News with more:

Kingston, who was renting the mansion, is accused of not completing payments to VER VER Entertainment on a $150,000 entertainment system that included a 232-inch television. According to the complaint, Kingston persuaded the company to accept a lower down payment and credit towards the purchase by saying he would produce promotional videos for the company with Justin Bieber.

“He tells a story. He’s got basically a script, he says that he works with Justin Bieber, and that he obviously puts on a big show here,” said VER VER attorney Dennis Card. “This is a rental house, he doesn’t own it. And he lures people using his celebrity into having them release things without him paying for it. And then he simply never pays.”

Kingston’s own lawyer Robert Rosenblatt has since responded to the allegations, arrests and raid, saying in a statement: “We are aware of some of the allegations...We look forward to addressing these in court and are confident of a successful resolution for Shawn and his mother.”
