UFC Fighter Miesha Tate Carries Injured 6-Year-Old Girl Down a Mountain After Hiking Accident
UFC fighter Miesha Tate’s Instagram profile makes no bones about her line of work: “I punch faces for a living.” But the 30-year-old mixed martial artist put her athletic training towards a good cause over the weekend, when she helped out a family in need.
The family had been hiking at the Mary Jane Falls trail in Mt. Charleston, Nevada, about 40 miles outside of Las Vegas, when their 6-year-old daughter, Kai, fell and broke her arm at the top of the trail.
“To our rescue and assistance came the amazing @mieshatate the UFC fighter,” Kai’s father, Andrew Abalos, captioned an Instagram pic of Tate carrying his daughter. “She offered to help us carry her down the mountain. Such an amazing and humble person to have met. Our family can’t thank you enough for all the help. You saved us easily hours of hiking and helped us get her to the hospital sooner.”

Kai’s mother, Amber, shared the same shot, thanking the UFC fighter for being “a true lifesaver” and helping the family traverse the steep, 2.6 mile Mary Jane Falls trail with their injured daughter.
“There’s no way I would have been able to do it myself,” she wrote. “I can’t thank you enough for helping us out today! Kai is your newest #1 fan.”
Tate later took to her own Instagram account to share a sweet thank you video from Kai that the family sent her.
“Meet Kai the sweet little girl that kept me company down the mountain side, very upbeat despite her broken arm,” she captioned the clip. “I just have to say this was one of the most rewarding days of my athletic career.”

The former UFC Bantamweight champion also made a point of emphasizing that her athletic training – for which she has been criticized in the past – was what helped her assist Kai and her family.
“I have been told many times that I am ‘too buff’ or ‘manly’ that I should stop lifting weights, that it’s 'gross’ and not attractive for a woman,” Tate continued. “I am so happy I never listened to the limitations others wanted to put on me and I hope that our youth knows that don’t have to conform. That strength and beauty come from within!”
