After years of public speculation about where the next Loro would land in Austin, it was announced this week that the Asian smokehouse from Hai Hospitality will open at the Domain.

But don’t gas up your car just yet. It won’t open until the end of 2024, according to a release. The smokehouse from Uchi founder Tyson Cole and partner Aaron Franklin will be at 11601 Domain Drive, Suite 200. That’s next to the Aloft hotel for those not well versed in Domain geography or retail.

Loro opened its first location in 2018, ironically on the same piece of land where AppleTree Grocery store used to be, which Cole worked at as a manager until it was purchased in 1993. That little bit of history led Cole to a career in sushi, a story I detail in this year’s Austin360 Dining Guide, which celebrated Uchi as one of the recent entries into the Austin360 Restaurant Hall of Fame.

From the archives: Asian smokehouse Loro isn't a mash-up of Uchi and Franklin Barbecue. But what is it?

The forthcoming 5,000-square-foot Loro will offer about 260 seats, with half indoor and half outdoor. Loro Domain will be the sixth location of the restaurant that blends the smoke, acid and textures for which Franklin and Cole are known, joining the original on South Lamar, as well as Dallas, Houston Heights, Addison and soon-to-open Houston Rice Village locations.
