Tyra Banks Is All Business in Sexy Blazer at the “Sports Illustrated Swimsuit” 60th Anniversary Party

The supermodel and her iconic smize are featured on the cover of the magazine's 60th anniversary issue

Tyra Banks is celebrating the 60th anniversary of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit in style.

The supermodel, 50, hit the Hard Rock Hotel in New York City on Thursday, May 16, to celebrate the magazine's anniversary issue which features her on the cover.

Banks walked the red carpet wearing a sexy double-breasted blazer with metallic magenta accents on the lapel and buttons. She paired the classy piece with skinny black pants and pointed-toe stilettos. Her signature light brown hair was worn down with voluminous waves.

For this year's anniversary there are a whopping seven covers shot by photographer Yu Tsai. Chrissy Teigen, Gayle King, Hunter McGrady and Kate Upton each have their own, while three are group shots featuring legends ranging from Christie Brinkley and Molly Sims to Martha Stewart and Paulina Porizkova.

The supermodel made history back in 1996 when she became the first Black model to cover SI. In this most recent "legendary" cover story, Banks looked back on what it meant for her to break this barrier.

"What does being an SI Swimsuit Legend mean to me? Busting down the door so other people can come through," she told the magazine.

"28 years ago, I made history by being the 1st Black model to grace the cover of @si_swimsuit," she wrote in an Instagram post, alongside a video of her posing for her cover story photoshoot. "And today, I am honored to be called a LEGEND and ICON on this year’s 60th Anniversary cover.

MJ Day, editor in chief of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, said in a press release that the goal of the 60th anniversary celebrations is to continue challenging the status quo while also honored the women who made strides to bring the magazine to where it is today.

"Over the past 60 years we have shattered stereotypes, embraced diversity, and championed inclusivity,” MJ Day said in the press release. “With each passing year, we have challenged ourselves to push boundaries and redefine what it means to be Sports Illustrated Swimsuit."

"While this year’s issue is a tribute to the recent past, it’s also a reminder of the work we must continue to do," she continued. "We must remind women to challenge the status quo, to celebrate strength and confidence, and to inspire those around us to embrace their uniqueness and pursue their passions fearlessly.”
