Tyler Perry To Develop 16-Ep Netflix Series ‘Beauty In Black’ As Part Of Ongoing Deal

Tyler Perry will be expanding his ongoing partnership with Netflix, now adding the developing TV drama series Beauty In Black. Comprised of 16 hour-long episodes, the series “follows two women leading very different lives.”

According to Netflix, Beauty in Black is about a character named Kimmie who is struggling to make a living after getting kicked out by her mother. On the flipside, Mallory has a more successful life. The two Black women end up “entangled in each other’s lives.”

Netflix made the announcement on Monday (Feb. 12) of extending its deal with Perry for the multi-year, first-look series pact. Perry initially inked in October with promise to deliver eight projects over four years. Beauty in Black will be written, directed and executively produced by the TV and movie mogul.

Aside from Perry’s multiyear deal with Netflix, the 54-year-old powerhouse also has a deal with BET to create content for cable and its new streaming service, BET+. Perry currently has 10 series’ between the cable network and its streaming services, including Sistas, The Oval, Zatima, and Ruthless.

The “Madea” impresario also has upcoming films with Netflix including the World War II drama Six Triple Eight, starring Kerry Washington, and thriller Mea Culpa, led by Kelly Rowland.

The Atlanta native has already produced Netflix films: A Jazzman’s Blues, A Madea Homecoming, and the critically-acclaimed, A Fall from Grace.
