Tyler, the Creator Talks IGOR Going No. 1 Over DJ Khaled: “I’m So Proud of Myself”

Tyler also discussed the wig, Frank Ocean, Solange, and more in a new Beats 1 interview with Zane Lowe

Tyler, the Creator recently sat down with Beats 1 host Zane Lowe for a new interview. In the hour-long conversation, Tyler talked about everything from his new wig and interest in collaborating with Billie Eilish to hanging with Frank Ocean and Solange. Tyler also discussed his new album IGOR topping the charts at No. 1, thereby bumping DJ Khaled’s Father of Asahd LP to No. 2.

“No disrespect to Khaled or anyone,” Tyler said to Zane. “But this n***a had every person in the industry, everyone on that fucking album. Everyone. Everyone. Cardi B. 21 Savage. Travis Scott. Post Malone. Beyonce. Jay. Everyone who sells billions of records and the fact that I beat him with this that isn’t parallel to all the popping music right now was fucking crazy, bro. It... Are you serious? Like, that was insane to me. And it’s new to me, bro. I’m on album five and six. And it’s work. It’s effort. It’s work. This is fucking whether n***as like it or not, bro, it’s so much work and detail put into this shit like—I’m so proud of myself.”

After Father of Asahd was ranked at No. 2, it was reported that DJ Khaled “stormed into Epic [Records, his label]” and “threw a temper tantrum.” Khaled’s representatives later told The FADER that he was frustrated with Billboard’s calculation methods as opposed to the promotional strategies carried out by the label. A contributing factor to Khaled’s demotion was that his record was bundled with other merchandise, including energy drinks. Billboard deemed these as invalid merch bundles.
