Here are two ways to celebrate Fred Usinger Day with free brats in the Milwaukee area

The Milwaukee area is celebrating Fred Usinger Day with free brats.

The Bavarian Bierhaus, at 700 W. Lexington Blvd. in Glendale, is giving away free bratwursts from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday during its Fred Usinger Day celebration.

There will also be live polka music and a keg-tapping ceremony at 6 p.m.

The Old German Beer Hall, 1009 N. Martin Luther King Drive, will celebrate Friday with an all-day event from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Free Usinger brats — one per person — will be given out while supplies last.

Fritz Usinger, Fred Usinger's great-grandson and president of Usinger's, will tap a wooden keg of Hofbräu Munich beer at 6 p.m.

The day honors company founder Fred Usinger, who bought his employer's butcher shop and founded Usinger's in 1880.
