Wisconsinites can expect a lot of snow in the coming days as two storm systems are expected to move through the state starting Thursday morning and ending early Saturday. Read more about the latest winter storm coverage.

The first will begin Thursday morning and taper off in the afternoon or early evening. Scott Berschback, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Green Bay, said that system is likely to drop about 1 to 3 inches across the state. The snow is likely to be heaviest in the far northeast and north-central part of the state, Berschback said.

A larger system will hit the southwestern part of the state Friday morning and spread across most of the state throughout the day. As of Wednesday morning, models showed that the storm could drop 3 to 8 inches of snow, Berschback said, and wind gusts could get up to 20 or 25 mph.

The section of the state stretching from La Crosse, across central Wisconsin and into Marinette is likely to receive the most snowfall, although that could still change, Berschback said.

The heaviest snowfall is expected to hit Friday afternoon and last through midnight. The storm will taper off in the early morning hours of Saturday, he said.

The northwestern and southeastern portions of the state likely won't receive any snowfall, but the Milwaukee and Janesville areas could receive some rain, Berschback said.

The trajectory of the storm could change, so Berschback advises people to keep an eye on the forecast and plan for winter driving conditions.
