Two Neil Youngs Perform Original Song on a Tree Stump

On Tuesday night, legendary rocker Neil Young logged another Tonight Show appearance, performing “Two Neil Youngs on a Tree Stump” with Jimmy Fallon. The duet began with Fallon impersonating Young, singing “One guy sitting on a tree stump, thinking about life and the changing seasons, whiling away the hours of the day ’til the morning comes.”

Then the tree stump rotated to reveal the real Neil Young singing, “One guy sitting on a tree stump, sitting all alone in the noonday sun, looking for the shade of yesterday, but it’s all gone.” And around and around the stump went as the Neil Youngs sang about deforestation.

Surrounded by fake animals in a dark forest, the Neil Youngs’ tune warned “The living tree became a giving tree. Become one with nature become two of me. We’re two Neil Youngs sitting on a tree stump. Used to be a tree trunk, but look at what we’ve done, said the father to the son. The leaves on the tree and the air that we breathe is gone.”

The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on NBC.
