Two nationally known standup comics are in Olympia this weekend. Here are the details

Twice the comedy

The Olympia Film Society is hosting not one but two celebrated comedians this weekend. On Friday, April 5, “Tonight Show” alum Jared Freid will take the stage at the Capitol Theater, 206 Fifth Ave. SE, Olympia. Freid, whose podcast “Jtrain” has been called “A Dear Abby for Dudes,” focuses much of his material on millennial relationships and situationships. (If this is the first time you’ve heard the term “situationship,” he’s not talking about you.) Then Saturday, April 6, it’s Drew Lynch’s turn. Lynch, who rocketed onto the scene thanks to “America’s Got Talent,” has a bit on the film society website called “My ADHD Wife,” which will likely get you laughing (and we hope his wife is laughing too). Both shows start at 8 p.m., with doors open at 7. Tickets for Freid are $20-$40 and those for Lynch are $33-$50.

Celebrating mermaids and other myths

The International Mermaid Museum, located between Aberdeen and Westport, is getting even more excited than usual about the half-human, half-fish mythological creatures for its annual Mermaid Festival. The festival, launching Saturday, April 6, and running daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. through April 14, features daily underwater performances by Una the Mermaid and appearances by Olive the Alchemist, founder of the Seattle Mermaid School. As if that weren’t enough, there’ll be unicorns on view, too. The festival also features arts and crafts and live music. It’s all happening at the Westport Winery Garden Resort, 1 South Arbor Road, where the museum is located. Admission is $3 per person for those older than 5 or $10 per family.
