The Texas Association of Black Personnel in Higher Education (TABPHE) will be bringing two music artists and one comedian to Corpus Christi for its annual Juneteenth festivities.

On Friday, June 14, comedian and actor Rodney Perry will headline the annual Black & White Dance and Comedy Show at the Solomon Ortiz Center.

The following day, at Water's Edge Park, R&B singer Tweet and rapper Slim Thug will headline the 7th annual Juneteenth Festival.

The dance and comedy show is a ticketed event, while the festival is free to the public. Tickets can be purchased at tabphecc.org.

TABPHE President Simoné Sanders said this year is the 25th year the Corpus Christi chapter has been established. She said it is a giant milestone.

"It's an awesome accomplishment and I'm proud to say I was there at the start of it as a teenager," Sanders said. "The organization itself has been around for 51 years, but it just shows how much of an impact TABPHE made in South Texas."

Sanders said she hopes the festivities continue to be an education tool for attendees.

"I hope they learn why we celebrate Juneteenth," Sanders said. "All the events we will have are about bringing everyone together and showcase each other."

The full schedule of events is still in the works, but Sanders said the general public can stay up to date with the organization's website or its Facebook page at facebook.com/TABPHECorpusChristi.
