New two-day music and art festival coming to Wichita this summer

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Are you ready to go “elsewhere?” This summer, a new festival for all ages will take place in downtown Wichita.

The event is called the Elsewhere Festival and Conference. It is a two-day music and arts festival and conference that will take place on Friday, June 21 and Saturday, June 22, along St. Francis Street.

Elsewhere Fest is run by Midtopia with the goal of creating a space for music and art to bring the community together.

“The goal is to put a spotlight on Wichita. We’ve always had amazing talent here,” said Rudy Love Jr., a board member of Midtopia and a local music artist. “There’s an overlooked and underappreciated community that we hope to, in future years, put on the same platform as some of these other music talents because we believe our city is special in that way. And this festival is just to bring more people in so they can see what we see in Wichita.”

There will be a large number and variety of acts performing at this year’s festival.

“It is truly a genre-breaking festival,” said Love. “You have all different types of music playing on some of the stages. We have an EDM stage, hip-hop stage, and all kinds of things in between that performing, rock, and we even have a free stage for the community at Naftzger Park that’s gonna be amazing.”

“We are going to have incredible headlining acts such as Killer Mike, Vince Stables, Lane 8, and Steve Aoki. But we’ll also be showcasing a number of emerging bands both from our local scene and regional,” said President of Midtopia, Jessie Hartke.

The conference portion of the event is for artists and aspiring artists to discover and learn about the music industry and the community, as well as network.

“The conference ranges from, you know, all different types of information for local musicians and any kind of level to grow their business and empower them to be better at what they do,” said Love.

Midtopia hopes this festival will have a lasting effect on the community.

“There’s just a lot of amazing things happening all at once, and we hope to make it not just one thing that happens every year, but a lasting effect on the community and a place where people can go ‘elsewhere,'” said Love.

Tickets for the conferences are $25 for two days, and the festival tickets begin at $59. Tickets go on sale April 19.
