These Arizona chocolate and pasta makers are national food award finalists. What to know

Two Arizona businesses are finalists for the 2024 Good Food Awards: Hayden Flour Mills and Monsoon Chocolate.

The Good Food Awards ceremony will take place on April 29 in Portland, Oregon, sponsored by the Good Food Merchants Collaborative.

Finalists were selected from over 1,700 entries from across the United States in 17 categories for food and drinks. The finalists include 428 products from 311 different companies, which were chosen in a blind test.

Hayden Flour Mills is a finalist in the grains category for their Heritage Durum Semolina Fusilli pasta. Tucson's Monsoon Chocolate is a finalist in three categories: snacks, chocolate and confections.

The chocolate shop was nominated in the snacks category for its coconut macaroons covered in dark chocolate, which use Monsoon's 69% dark chocolate blend sprinkled with toasted coconut.

In the chocolate category, the Sonoran sea salt dark chocolate bar was nominated. The taste is described on Monsoon Chocolate's website as fudge and salted plum, made with a distinctive salt harvested from an estuary where the Sonoran Desert meets the Sea of Cortez.

In the confections category, Monsoon Chocolate was nominated for its Reposado sweet orange margarita bon bon. It is sold as part of the Rincon collection bon bon box, which is named after the Rincon Mountains and features bon bons made with agave-based spirits.
