It was an emotional episode of NCIS this week, as the show said goodbye to not one but two of its beloved characters.
After Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette) and Clay Reeves (Duane Henry) were shot by a mugger in last week’s episode, Clay was revealed to be dead in the shocking opening scene, while Abby was in critical condition. Perrette had fans a little worried earlier in the week, when she teased the episode, tweeting:
I’m so worried about you guys for Tuesdays episode of the #GoodbyeAbby
It’s sad, But I hope hope hope you will all watch. I Want the world to watch. I did my best work for you. And TONS of flashbacks. Everyone is there. Love you! Get everyone to watch please.

Luckily, Abby survived the encounter. Fans were bereft at the loss of Clay, with one person tweeting:

Ultimately, Abby decided to leave NCIS to escort Clay’s body back to London, help make funeral arrangements, and carry on Clay’s legacy by starting a charity in honor of his mom — something Clay always wanted to do. “I know you may not understand, but it’s something that I have to do. And not just for him, but for me,” Abby told her co-workers. “It wasn’t an easy decision. I mean, you guys are my family and this is my home. But you have to go with your gut, and my gut is telling me that I have to go.”
People also voiced sadness about Abby’s exit:
The most heartbreaking episode I’ve ever watched. Goodbye Abby. #NCIS
