Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey Says Mark Zuckerberg Once Killed and Served Him a Goat for Dinner
You might want to check what’s on the menu before accepting an invitation to Mark Zuckerberg’s house for dinner.
During an illuminating interview with Rolling Stone, Jack Dorsey was asked about the most memorable moment he’d shared with the fellow tech titan.
The Twitter CEO, 42, opened up about the time Zuckerberg, 34, served him a goat that he’d personally killed.
“There was a year when he was only eating what he was killing,” Dorsey remarked, referring to 2011 — when the Facebook CEO set a “personal challenge” to not consume any meat he hadn’t killed himself.
“He made goat for me for dinner. He killed the goat,” Dorsey continued, before clarifying that the Zuckerberg took care of business before his guest arrived that night.
“He killed it before. I guess he kills it. He kills it with a laser gun and then the knife. Then they sent it to the butcher,” Dorsey remarked, adding, “evidently in Palo Alto there’s a rule or regulation that you can have six livestock on any lot of land, so he had six goats at the time.”

Detailing their back and forth that night, Dorsey shared that he had a few questions after learning goat was on the menu.
“I said, ‘Have you eaten goat before?’ He’s like, ‘Yeah, I love it.’ I’m like, ‘What else are we having?’ ‘Salad,’ ” Dorsey recounted to Rolling Stone. “I said, ‘Where is the goat?’ ‘It’s in the oven.’ Then we waited for about 30 minutes. He’s like, ‘I think it’s done now.’ ”
“We go in the dining room. He puts the goat down. It was cold. That was memorable,” Dorsey continued. “I don’t know if it went back in the oven. I just ate my salad.”

A spokesperson for Facebook told PEOPLE in a statement that “Mark’s personal challenge for 2011 was to only eat meat that he killed and helped butcher himself.”
“He said that we should be thankful and understand where our food comes from and he spent that year putting it into practice,” the spokesperson added.
Twitter did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

News of Zuckerberg’s 2011 challenge first gained attention on May 4 of that year, when the Facebook CEO shared an update on his private Facebook page, writing, “I just killed a pig and a goat.”
Zuckerberg, who was then 27, went on to tell Fortune that the decision to adopt the unique dietary restriction stemmed from a pig roast at his house the previous year.
“A bunch of people told me that even though they loved eating pork, they really didn’t want to think about the fact that the pig used to be alive,” he said. “That just seemed irresponsible to me. I don’t have an issue with anything people choose to eat, but I do think they should take responsibility and be thankful for what they eat rather than trying to ignore where it came from.”
He added to Fortune that during this time he was mostly a vegetarian.
Zuckerberg also touched on how his year-long experience changed the dynamic when he invited friends over for dinner, noting that his guests tended not to eat much of the meat he personally killed.
However, at the time Zuckerberg attributed this to the fact that his friends just wanted him to be able to eat as much meat as possible.
“I guess they feel like I don’t have too much meat, so I should eat it myself,” he said. “I prefer sharing though.”
