It is happening again … again.
Showtime has unveiled a new Twin Peaks teaser, signaling the David Lynch thriller's imminent comeback. While it's only 30 seconds of footage, without a single Twin Peaks resident in sight, it's still quite easily the most revealing look at the series yet - given Lynch and company's insistence on keeping the 18-episode revival's story completely under wraps.
Rather than focusing on the fates of Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) and the rest of the men and women who populate this ethereal and eccentric area of the Pacific Northwest, the latest video stops to smell the proverbial Douglas Firs. Indeed, the very first image glimpsed is the infamous Red Room, a world that Agent Cooper first sees in his dreams as early as the third episode of the series - the same site that introduced us to the Man from Another Place (Michael J. Anderson).
Also featured are familiar stomping grounds like the Twin Peaks Sheriffs Department, as well as the RR Cafe, home of Twin Peaks' best cherry pie. However, the signage on the diner has been replaced with the words "RR2Go!," accompanied by an arrow pointing to the other side of the building. It sure looks like Twin Peaks has a drive-thru now - not much of a revelation on the surface, but certainly a sign of the changing times.
Luckily, here's one thing that looks almost exactly the same: the Twin Peaks logo, which remains encased in a neon green border. It's a signal that as much as things are changing with the coming series, some elements will remain exactly as remembered when Twin Peaks last aired in 1991.
