The Twilight Saga is finally getting an expansion from author Stephenie Meyer, with a new book coming out very soon.

The author had planned to release Midnight Sun all the way back in 2008, but the manuscript leaked online and it was cancelled. She published a partial draft, but beyond that, it remained something fans could only dream of owning.

But now Meyer has chosen today (move over, Star Wars Day) to announce that she is finally releasing the book, which retells the story from the perspective of Edward Cullen and will be available from August 4.

There was a countdown on her website, but the traffic caused the page to crash (at the time of writing, it's still inaccessible).

However, Meyer appeared on Good Morning America to give us the details, stating: "It's a crazy time right now and I wasn't sure if this was the right time to put this book out, but some of you have been waiting for just so, so long.

"It didn't seem fair to make you wait anymore. Sorry about the bad timing. Hopefully this book can be a distraction from the real world."

Meyer has promised that there is "so much more" to the story as told through Edward's eyes, and that she had been working on things that Edward would say and do for ages before finally settling down to work on it.

Since the original Twilight book, Meyer has written the novels The Host and The Chemist.

Midnight Sun will be released on August 4. All previous Twilight books are available to buy on Amazon.
